Columbia holding annual drills and skills clinic

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Mayor Steve Benjamin and Columbia’s Parks and Recreation Department are giving kids in South Carolina’s capital city a way to stay active as summer heads into the home stretch.

Registration ends Tuesday for the sixth Annual Back-To-School Drills and Skills Clinics. Activities get under way Aug. 3 at different parks and recreation centers around Columbia.

The clinics are free, but registration is required.

Organizers say the weeklong clinics give kids ages 6 to 17 a chance to learn basketball, tennis, golf, soccer and cheerleading and stay active while school is out.

Festivities wrap up Aug. 7 with a skills competition and a school supplies giveaway.
