Second person arrested after teen fires gun at Charleston Police

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WBCD) — The man wanted for an incident where someone fired at authorities is in police custody.

Calvin Smith Jr. was wanted for multiple charges including two counts of attempted murder, two counts of failure to stop for blue lights, unlawful carrying of a firearm, and drug-related charges for the December 30, 2017, incident.

Authorities said two officers smelled marijuana in the car as it slowly passed them around 11:45 a.m. near Carriage Lane in West Ashley.

As the officers tried to pull over the car, but the driver fled, nearly hitting a pedestrian.

The front seat passenger, later identified as Brianna Sampson, then fired several shots and everyone inside of the car tried to run away. The officers did not fire their guns, authorities added.

Police charged Brianna Sampson with attempted murder and weapons charges. At an earlier bond hearing, bond was set at $75,000 for firearm charge and $100,000 for each attempted murder charge. Her total bond hearing charge is $275,000.

Smith was arrested on Monday, February 12.
