GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — A unloaded .38 caliber handgun was found at a Georgetown County middle school. Now the student is being recommended for expulsion, according to the Georgetown County School District.
At approximately 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7, a student reported to a Georgetown Middle School administrator that it was believed a student was in possession of a handgun.
The principal and SRO immediately removed the student from the classroom and recovered an unloaded .38 caliber handgun from the student’s coat pocket, according to Director of Safety & Risk Management Alan Walters.
No ammunition was found on the student or in his locker or belongings.
As required by state law, the student has been recommended for expulsion and will face criminal charges from the Georgetown Police Department, which is conducting an ongoing investigation.
