JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) — The man accused of an early morning shooting on Johns Island is now in police custody.
Terrence Alonzo Heyward, 41, is charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
Authorities say just after 7 a.m. on Thursday, January 25 while investigating a shooting that occurred on Jesse Qualls Dr., detectives located a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle.
The vehicle was parked at 3345 Jesse Qualls Dr.
Detectives attempted to make contact with the suspect. At that point, we’re told he refused to exit the residence and barricaded himself inside the house.
Other occupants inside of the home evacuated at the request of deputies.
Shortly after the SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Teams responded, Heyward willingly exited the home. Detectives took him into custody without incident.
He’s currently being held at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center.
A bond hearing is scheduled for Friday, January 26 at 10 a.m.
