ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (WCBD) – New York Times bestselling author Mary Alice Monroe is bringing two of her favorite authors to the world-class, private Wild Dunes Resort for a charity literary event open to the public. New York Times bestselling authors Mary Kay Andrews and Nancy Thayer will be the featured speakers at the Wild Dunes Author Series, Sunday, January 21st, at 2:00 p.m.
Monroe, said the event, “It’s an exciting North Coast meets South Coast literary event with two talented writers whose fan base spans the entire East Coast. They are queens of summer beach books.” All three authors write national bestsellers rooted in beach settings inspired by where they live. Thayer is from Nantucket, MA. Andrews splits her time between Atlanta and Tybee Island, GA. Monroe lives on Isle of Palms, SC.
Monroe organized the first Wild Dunes Author Series in 2006 with a dual mission of connecting Lowcountry readers with notable writers in an intimate setting, while also supporting Lowcountry-based organizations dedicated to improving literacy. Past participants include nationally bestselling authors Debbie Macomber, Dorothea Benton Frank, Lisa Genova, Nathalie Dupree, Kathy Reichs, and the late Pat Conroy.
Proceeds from the 2018 event will benefit the Pat Conroy Literary Center, a 501(c)(3) organization in Beaufort, SC. Conroy was considered the king of southern literature, and is especially beloved in the Lowcountry. The participating authors are donating their time in his memory. Proceeds of book sales, as well as proceeds from the auction, which include a painting donated by celebrated Lowcountry artist Mickey Williams, will all go to the Pat Conroy Literary Center.
Attendees will enjoy hearing the authors talk candidly about topics related to their work and personal lives. The stage will be designed by On a Whim Home Accents. Guests will sample recipes from Andrews’ Beach House Cookbook. Complimentary cocktails will be provided by Firefly Distillery. And floral arrangements will be provided by Wildflowers Inc. A book signing will follow the discussion with books provided by Litchfield Books.
