Man breaks into church, escapes from authorities after arrested

RUFFIN, S.C. (WCBD) — The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a man who escaped from the custody of authorities.

Authorities say on December 6 at about 7:15 p.m., Vernon Brandon Johnson, 22, was arrested for breaking into the Shiloh Baptist Church.

Johnson escaped from the deputy’s vehicle while wearing handcuffs.

The 22-year-old was not found after deputies and a K9 unit responded to track his location.

He is believed to be still in the area of Sniders Hwy and Lowcountry Hwy in Ruffin.

Vernon Brandon Johnson is described as a white male, standing between 5’ 8” to 5’ 10”, and weighing approximately 160 pounds.

He has a thin build and blond/light brown hair with a goatee.

Johnson was last wearing a black hoodie with blue jeans.
