SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – A new supermarket has significantly changed a shopping center in Summerville.
The new Lowes foods on Dorchester Road opens on December 6th at 10 a.m. in the Oakbrook Station Shopping Center.
The center has been redeveloped with a brand new building for the grocery store and renovations in the surrounding buildings.
“From the side of Community Thrift down to Jeff Cook, which is an existing tenant, was 20,000 square feet and we demolished that and built this ground up,” said Charles Fitzhenry, Leasing Director for RealtyLink Charleston. The developer purchased the shopping center in November 2016.
Existing businesses in Oakbrook Station like Jeff Cook Real Estate and Philly’s, a cheesesteak sandwich shop, will continue to occupy the shopping center but new businesses like Roper Saint Francis ATI Physical Therapy are leasing space too.
Even though Lowes Foods has not yet opened some say they have already noticed a positive change in the shopping center.
“Businesses to the side over here that have gotten considerably larger in the last probably three to five months,” said Tom England, a real estate agent with Jeff Cook Real Estate. “I think it was right about the summertime we really started to see the effects of it. I think it might have been sheer curiosity but we had a ton of people just driving through here, more walk-ins coming into the office.”
Fitzhenry said there are plans to complete work on their third building, by Ladson Road, in Spring 2018.
