New high-speed internet service coming to rural Dorchester County

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — AT&T is introducing a new high-speed Internet service for rural Dorchester County and other under served areas in South Carolina.

The cellular company made an announcement about new Fixed Wireless Internet service on Monday in St. George. St. George Mayor Anne Johnston, State Senator John Matthews, State Representative Patsy Knight, and AT&T External Affairs Director Jack Mitchell attended the announcement event.

The services delivers home internet connection with download speeds of at least 10 Mbps and upload speeds of at least 1 Mbps.

AT&T installed the technology on some of its existing cell towers to enable the service. Residents interested in signing up can go to to see if their address is eligible or by visiting an AT&T store. The company then has to install a receiver at the home to start the service.
