ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — An Escambia County School system bus driver is under investigation after video surfaced that seems to show him using his cell phone while driving in Alabama.
“I don’t want to get anybody in trouble or fired, but I do want him to know what he did wrong, I do expect for him to give all of us an apology”, said Beverly Hill.
Beverly Hill is the mother of the student who recorded video of what looks like, a bus driver using his cell phone while driving.
In the video, you can see the unidentified driver reach for his phone and at several times take both hands off the wheel. You can hear children in the background while the driver looks at the phone and swipes it.
Superintendent John Knott of the Escambia County School system confirms to WKRG News 5 that they are investigating the video and have “addressed the situation”. Knott says he’s taking the investigation seriously and says it’s a very serious matter anytime you have an issue involving the safety of children.
The superintendent declined to answer whether the driver was placed on leave during the investigation or is still driving.
