LELAND, N.C. (WECT) — Officials responded to the scene of a shooting in the Windsor Park community of Leland Friday evening that left an officer injured and killed the suspect.
According to District Attorney Jon David, officers responded to reports of a suspicious person on Bridgeport Way around 8:51 p.m.
The suspect died as a result of the shooting and an officer was shot multiple times in the leg, according to District Attorney Jon David.
The officer is at New Hanover Regional Medical Center undergoing treatment. His bulletproof vest played a big role in saving his life.
No word yet on how the shooting happened.
The officer’s injuries are not life-threatening according to Jon David.
The suspect lived in the Windsor Park community.
The name of the officer and the suspect have not been released yet.
The State Bureau of Investigation is expected to investigate the shooting.
