Deputies search for suspects in attempted ATM theft

Suspects in Orangeburg attempt to steal ATM.

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WCBD) -Orangeburg County Sheriff’s investigators are searching for the driver of a vehicle used in an attempt to snatch an ATM from a Bowman business last month.

Just after 3 a.m. on Friday, November 25 a witness called 911 while an attempt to steal an ATM was in progress.

The caller said that a subject driving a green truck had backed up to the front doors of the Scotchman Exxon on Homestead Road before smashing out the door’s glass.

A single subject can be seen on security video entering the business and wrapping the ATM with a chain connected to the truck outside.

During several attempts to yank the machine from the building, the ATM is destroyed and the building structure itself is damaged severely.

Deputies arrived minutes later, immediately blocking in the truck with Kentucky license plates to prevent the subject from driving away.

The subject, however, had apparently fled on foot.

The business is located at the junction of Interstate 26 and Homestead Road near Bowman.

If anyone has any information on the driver, they are asked to call the OCSO at 803-534-3550 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
