Most popular baby names of 2016

(WCBD) — As 2016 comes to a wrap, Baby Center has released the annual list of most popular baby names. Sophia and Jackson were the most popular names for baby girls and boys respectively. Several parents named their babies after characters in TV shows, including ‘The Walking Dead,’ ‘Stranger Things,’ and ‘American Horror Story.’

Top 10 girl names of 2016

  2. Emma
  3. Olivia
  4. Ava
  5. Mia
  6. Isabella
  7. Riley
  8. Aria
  9. Zoe
  10. Charlotte

Top 10 boy names of 2016

  1. Jackson
  2. Aiden
  3. Lucas
  4. Liam
  5. Noah
  6. Ethan
  7. Mason
  8. Caden
  9. Oliver
  10. Elijah

Names including Peyton, Eliana, Mateo and Ezra all jumped up the list. New to the top 100 list include Melanie, Luna, Zane and Kai. Parents of baby girls named their daughters after powerful women, with the name Hillary rising 64 perfect in popularity.

On the other hand, Kylie slid down 20 spots, and Parker, down 19, according to babycenter.com. Names such as Kaitlyn, Isla, Taylor, Brody, Blake and Xander fell out of the top 100 charts.
