Kingstree man killed after Amtrak train hits car

KINGSTREE, S.C. (WBTW) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash in Williamsburg County between a car and a train.

According Cpl. Sonny Collins, the crash happened around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of US 52 and Eastland Avenue outside Kingstree.

Collins said the driver of a 2015 Ford Focus attempted to drive around the cross-arms of the railroad track and was struck by an Amtrak train. Williamsburg County Assistant Coroner Vernal Fulton, identified the victim as 42-year-old Dontae Lamont Jenkins, of Kingstree.

Jenkins was the only person inside the car and died at the scene.
