BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — One person was dead and another is recovering following a shooting in Goose Creek Tuesday evening.
According to Chief Deputy Mike Cochran with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, around 10:05 p.m., November 29, a deputy driving on Pineshadow Drive heard gunshots coming from about 100 feet away from his location. A silver Chevrolet Malibu was seen backing out of a space without its lights on and speed off, passing the deputy’s marked cruiser. The deputy made a traffic stop on the vehicle and the passenger exited the vehicle and was detained.
It was discovered that the female driving the vehicle had gunshot wounds as did another passenger.
The female victim, 18-year-old Catelyn Alcantara was rushed to the hospital where she is expected to recover. The male passenger who also had gunshot wounds, 20-year-old Nicholas Bradley Valentine, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The car that the pair was riding in had a number of bullet holes through the doors and windshield, according to Berkeley County Chief Deputy Coroner George Oliver.
Christopher Eugene Smith III of Goose Creek is charged with murder and weapons violations. The specific of the charges are still pending. He’s currently being held at the Hill Finklea Detention Center.
