Rubber mats cause structure fire in North Charleston

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — Emergency personnel responded to a structure fire at Alsco on Chateau Ave. in North Charleston. The call came in just before 10 p.m. on Tuesday night.

According to North Charleston Fire Department officials, rubber mats caught fire inside the building. The fire sprinkler system activated, thus containing the fire until firefighters could fully extinguish it.

North Charleston, Charleston and, St. Andrews Fire Departments along with North Charleston Police and Charleston County EMS responded to the 4900 block of Chateau Avenue.

According to an officer at the scene, burning chemicals caused smoke in the area.

There were no reported injuries and the specific cause of the fire remains under investigation.
