17-month-old boy drowns in bucket in Richland County

ELGIN, S.C. (AP) – Authorities say a 17-month-old boy has drowned in a 5-gallon bucket of water in Richland County.

Coroner Gary Watts said in a news release that Daniel Rodriguez was taken to the hospital after someone found him in the bucket Monday, but he died a short time later.

Watts says an autopsy determined the boy drowned.

The coroner’s office and sheriff’s deputies are investigating how the toddler got into the bucket and how long his head was under the water before he was found.
