42-year-old woman killed in car crash in Charleston County

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — The Charleston County Coroner’s Office released the identity of the person killed in a single car crash Sunday morning.

According to Deputy Coroner Sheila Williams, Meka Drayton, 42, of Huger, died of blunt force trauma.

Just after 5 a.m. on November 20, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to investigate a single car fatality on Highway 17 near McConnell Drive.

Authorities said a 2002 gray Nissan Altima was travelling at a high speed, when it ran off the road to the right off Highway 17 Southbound in front of Boone Hall.

The Altima struck a tree and a light pole before flipping over.

Drayton was pronounced dead at the scene.
