COLUMBIA, S.C. – Oh what could have been. Porter-Gaud was so close to claiming it’s 6th state championship in football, but Ben Lippen had other plans.
The Cyclones and Falcons were tied at 21 at the end of regulation, forcing a sudden death overtime.
Porter-Gaud got the ball first in the OT, but they failed to convert on a fourth down.
Ben Lippen took over and handed the ball off to Bryce Thompson, their star running back and Virginia Tech commitment. He darted in for the game-winning score, sending Porter-Gaud home as the runner-up.
