Prayer vigil for missing Lowcountry teens

MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCBD)- 15- year-old Avery Lites and 16-year-old Vance Powers were last seen early Sunday morning.Today, their friends and family gathered at First United Methodist Church on the Isle of Palms to pray for their return.

“The first and foremost goal of the prayer vigil is to get Vance and Avery home safely and bring some comfort to their families,” said Pastor Thomas Smith.wcbd-missing-kids

The boys are  both good students, participants of ROTC, and active in their church ministry. There is still no word on why the boys decided to runaway. The families hope this serves as a learning lesson to other parents.

“Parents need to always be talking to their teens. Your job is to be your own private detective because sometimes you will not know what is going on,” says Christine Lites, Avery’s mother. “We just don’t know why and so we don’t want anybody to be in this type of position, she added”

Friends and family are pleading for their return.

The Mount Pleasant Police Department says the pair is possibly together and in a 2008 Ford Expedition with SC tag EIU 324.
