Clemson student from Mount Pleasant dies

PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — A Clemson University student’s death is under investigation, according to the Pickens County Coroner’s Office, and it could be weeks before more information is known about his death.

According by a statement made by Clemson University officials, Carter Stephen Ainsworth, 22, died on Saturday, November 12.

Ainsworth was a senior biological science major from Mount Pleasant. He died at Oconee Memorial Hospital on Saturday. Paramedics performed CPR on Ainsworth before transporting him to the hospital. They say Clemson Police Department is also investigating the death.

On Sunday, Clemson University President Jim Clements tweeted, “My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of student Carter Ainsworth.”


“The Clemson family is hurting at the news of Carter’s death,” said Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students L. Christopher Miller. “He will be deeply missed.”

The cause of death was not known as of Monday morning.

An autopsy wasscheduled for Monday, November 14.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is providing grief counseling. Students who want to speak to a counselor should contact CAPS at 864-656-2451.
