JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) — The Town of James Island would like to hold off on adding a new traffic signal at Mikell and Harbor View Roads, at least for the time being.

Officials say County Councilman Joe Qualey and Town Councilman Troy Mullinax requested to have a resolution added to the Town’s agenda requesting the Department of Transportation to delay the activation of the new traffic signal. We’re told if a traffic study shows that it is needed, the traffic signal would then be turned on.

“In my opinion, this request should have come two years ago when the Town first approved the project. The plan presented to the Town by the Charleston County at that time included this traffic signal,” Mayor Bill Woolsey said in an email message.

If it passes Town Council, it will go to the City of Charleston, and then Charleston County.

Town Council will take up the issue at its next meeting on Thursday, November 17 at 7 p.m.

Public comment will take place at the beginning of the meeting.
