SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) — One of the issues on the November 8 ballot was proposing to change the type of government in the Town of Summerville.
The referendum was not accepted, with approximately 43 percent of Summerville residents in favor of switching to a strong mayor government, but 57 percent of people opposed. A total of 16,626 votes were cast.
With the strong council form of government remaining in place, Summerville Mayor Wiley Johnson will not be getting any more power. Johnson currently has the same power as any other member of town council.
