How can local people get jobs working with Boeing? That’s a question that a brand-new facility that is in the works will help answer.
Trident Technical College President Dr. Mary Thornley told the crowd of dignitaries gathered to hear about the new SC Aeronautical Training Center just how important the new training center is. “What we’re doing is creating job opportunities for Lowcountry residents.”
The $80 million facility will allow all Aeronautical Training to take place at one location in one building. “This is the biggest project in the history of the college by far.”
Anita Zucker is a supplier for Boeing. She made a donation to help install solar panels at the new center. “And I have a facility here in Charleston and I’m thrilled because I know that I will be able to have more great people ready to go to work for us.”
Senator Larry Grooms told the crowd the facility means opportunity for local people.
He told the story of a woman who used to visit his St. Stephen convenience store back in 1988 on her way to work in the fields at Carolina Nursery in Moncks Corner. “She worked hard. There wasn’t that many opportunities back then. But that’s what she was able to do and she did it.”
This new facility will mean families like hers will change. “Her grandchildren can now come to a place like this aeronautics center, get the advance training and live a greater quality of life and a higher standard of living than she could imagine for her grandchildren.”
The SC Aeronautical Training Center is expected to open in the fall of 2019.
