Dupont Wappoo Community plan moves forward

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — The Dupont Wappoo Community plan, better known as DuWap area of West Ashley, is moving forward.

The project includes the general area between Sam Rittenberg Blvd., Wappoo Road, and Savannah Highway

Charleston County Council passed the plans on Tuesday night in the third and final reading.

Both Charleston County Council and the City of Charleston Council recognized the issues facing the community, and are addressing the fragmented land use and zoning designations, deteriorating traffic conditions and aging transportation infrastructure, severe drainage issues, and the desire of residents to create a neighborhood center that is cohesive with the greater West Ashley Area..

Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg is pushing to get rid of vacant shopping plazas and revitalize the roads.
