Blitz on 2 win of the week: Cathedral Academy

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – What a difference one year makes. Last season, the Cathedral Academy Generals won two games.

The week before the first practice of 2016, the Generals’ players had to deal with a coaching-change, with long-time Summerville High School Assistant Tommy Waitt taking over.

The odds were stacked against Cathedral, yet they’ve overcome every obstacle to end the regular season as the #1 overall seed when the SCISA 8-Man (Div. 1) playoffs start Friday night.

“We were very blessed with a great group of young men to work with,” said Waitt, who coached under the all-time win’s leader in any level of football at Summerville, John McKissick. “We just take it one step at a time, one week at a time during the season and I couldn’t be prouder than I am of this group of young men.”

The Generals’ beat Charleston Collegiate 58-42 on Friday, October 28 to lock up their first-ever region title.

Cathedral Academy hosts Curtis Baptist (Augusta) Friday night at 7:30pm.
