Car stolen with child inside

LADSON, SC (WCBD) —  It is every parent’s nightmare, their child stolen from their front yard. This happened to one mother in Ladson on Sunday night. Luckily, the little boy is okay and at home now, but the mother tells New 2 it was the scariest moment of her life when she realized the car was stolen, with the child inside.  News 2 sat down with the mother the next morning, and she asked for her family to stay anonymous for their safety.

The mother says, “I just kept saying, I hope he don’t hurt my son.”

She got home late Sunday night and her 7-month-old and 6-year-old boys are both asleep in the car.

She says, “I can’t carry both at one time. So I carried the small one in first, and I came back out for the bigger one, but the car was gone and my son was in the car.”

The mother says she was in the house for no more than three minutes, her car gone in 180 seconds.

She says, ” That right there is like, worst nightmare, you know, knowing that someone has taken your kid.”

She called police and within 30 minutes, her son and the care were found abandoned in an apartment complex parking lot five miles away.

She says, “He (the thief) told my son to get out of the car and stand by the car with the keys and he alerted a bystander and said, ‘hey this is a stolen car’, and he left, so the bystander he called 911.”

The mother says she is relieved her son is safe, but this is a wwake-upcall for the future.

She says, ” I would advise any parent, if you have multiple kids, and they’re asleep, and it’s just you, one, trying to get them in the house, please wake them up because anything can happen in like a split second. Anything can happen.”

The Sheriff’s Office believes that car was stolen by two men, but they haven’t been caught yet. If you have any information about this case, you can call Crimestoppers at (843) 554-1111.
