JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) — If you’ve noticed a horrible mosquito problem around your house, you’re not alone.

David Ralph of Johns Island emailed News 2 about the problem at his home. “My trailer, from where I park is maybe 15-20 feet away and before I can get in the door, I’m surrounded by mosquitos. It’s ridiculous.”

He asked us to look into the mosquito issue. “And it’s gotten worse. I have only seen them one time since the hurricane came through. I know they’re working hard, but it seems like they’re only hitting certain areas.”

We took those concerns to Ed Harne at Charleston County Mosquito Control. “Mainly due to hurricane Matthew’s effects, in other words the standing water that it left, we’re just literally swamped.”

Swamped with some 900 requests just since Monday for help to treat mosquitos in Charleston County. “We are running all the spray trucks that we can run at night. We’re taking all the service requests we can from folks all across the Lowcountry. We just ask that they be patient with us as we get to each area and spray it.”

Ed says they will hit all the areas soon. “We’re going to be spraying just about every particular area in Charleston County over the next week or two.”

There are mosquito treatment schedules for Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester counties.
