JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) — A James Island Charter High School student was arrested on weapons charges.
Jamal Wilder, 17, of James Island, is charged with unlawful carrying of a handgun, unlawful carry of a weapon on school property and possession of a stolen handgun. The gun was reported stolen out of Goose Creek, S.C.
Police spokesman Charles Francis says the incident took place on October 21 at the school during a football game.
We’re told a concerned parent told a school official during the football game that a student was in possession of a handgun. The school official identified the student and provided that information to the officers who were working the security detail at the game.
The officers located the student and found the loaded handgun in his possession.
Wilder was being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center.
