Boater in distress rescued by helicopter off of Charleston’s coast

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — A boater in distress off the coast of Charleston is rescued by a coast guard helicopter.

The coast guard says a passenger aboard a 60-foot sailboat reported a medical emergency shortly after noon Monday, October 24 about 20 miles off the coast.

A helicopter from Air Station Savannah responded and brought the 55-year-old man to shore and he was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina.

The sailboat the man was on was being towed at the time.
