A woman was killed Thursday in a house fire in Hanahan.
Fire officials responded to the home on Willard Drive just before noon. We’re told the fire may have started in the garage and spread to the rest of the home. Once the fire was under control, firefighters did a room-to-room search of the home and found the woman dead. Neighbors tell News 2’s Sofia Arazoza they knew the victim well, and they tried to help but the fire was just to severe.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the woman’s identity has not been released, though authorities described her as “elderly”. Hanahan Fire Department and Hanahan Police Department, along with North Charleston Fire Department and Charleston County EMS, all responded to the scene.
