OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — The trial for a Seneca man charged with attempting to kill his wife by burning continued Wednesday, October 19.

Jacob Daniel Drotning is charged with attempted murder, arson and domestic violence in Oconee County in May 2014.

His wife testified that their marriage was rocky and she told her husband she wanted to leave before she was set on fire. The assault left his wife with third-degree burns over 70% of her body. She spent nearly 18 months in a burn center.

The defense argues Drotning was trying to start up the grill, and that fire was an accident.
