MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCBD) — Authorities have recovered the body of a man who fell off a boat in Tail Race Canal, Wednesday morning.

The Berkeley County Rescue Squad tells News 2’s Raymond Owens that a father and son were in a fishing boat at Dennis Boat Landing around 9:30 a.m. when the father fell overboard and didn’t resurface.  He was not wearing a life jacket, according to authorities.

The man was identified as 66-year-old Theodore James Phlegar, Jr.  His son, who has not been identified yet, was taken to the hospital for chest pains.
