Standoff on James Island now over; burglary suspect not found inside of home

JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) — The Charleston Police Department says a home on Westway Drive is empty, following reports of a burglary suspect being inside.

Police spokesman Charles Francis say authorities responded to a home in the 1600 block of Westway Drive on Tuesday, October 18 at 1:06 p.m.

At 4:49 p.m., Charleston PD tweeted that investigators checked the home and the suspect was not found.

At this time, we do not know any details surrounding the burglary that prompted the search by authorites. We are working to get more details from the Charleston Police Department.
