NC homeless pair charged with rape, held on $100,00 bond

WAYNESVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – Two homeless men have been accused of rape in Haywood County, according to police.

Waynesville Police say John Allen Strickland, 45, and Jimmy Lee Christopher, 51, have been charged with 1st-degree rape and 1st-degree force sex offense.

When the pair was arrested, officers say they were sleeping on the floor of a storage building and were so heavily intoxicated that they had to be assisted into the jail.

The incident happened late Tuesday night and the suspects knew the victim, The Mountaineer newspaper reported.

“The victim was known to the suspects, and they’re all part of the same homeless community,” Wayne Police Sgt. Tamara Vander Day told the newspaper.

Strickland and Christopher are in the Haywood County Jail on $100,000 secured bonds each.
