24-year-old arrested following ‘brutal killing’ in Moncks Corner

MONCKS CORNER S.C. (WCBD) — “It was a brutal killing that happened in our jurisdiction,” that’s how Moncks Corner Police Chief Rick Ollic described the event that led to the death of 38-year-old Shanda Davis.

“You left my two-year-old nephew motherless the day before his birthday,” a woman representing the family, identified as Ms. Gilliard, said to Edward Isiah Nelson, 24, of North Charleston during an October 17 bond hearing.

The Moncks Corner Police responded to 166 Bradley Road, Francis Villa Apartments, on Saturday, October 15 in reference to an assault.

According to Berkeley County Coroner, Davis was cut multiple times. Medics transported her to a local hospital where she later died.

The Moncks Corner Police Department arrested Nelson in connection with the incident. He already spent some time in prison for armed robbery.

After someone from the family called him a “coward” near the end of the proceedings, some say his response was incriminating.

“She didn’t deserve it,” Nelson said.  “But you know, I let my anger get to me. I let jealously get to me. I let certain things get to me that I shouldn’t have. And if I could’ve just heard from her, if she would’ve just answered the phone.” Nelson goes on to say “I just wanted to talk to her about the situation that happened — prior to that. She wouldn’t answer. Instead, she wanted to go out with her friends.”

Bond was denied.

“He has caused this family so much pain, we will never be the same,” Gilliard added.
