Man dies in Williamsburg County crash after refusing to stop for Lake City Police, officials say

KINGSTREE, S.C. (WBTW) –  The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash that happened in Williamsburg County after police were chasing a car.

According to the SCHP, the crash happened around 2:30 a.m. Friday on East Nesmith Road when a car ran off the road, struck a tree, and threw the driver from the vehicle.

Lake City Police Chief Jeff Johnson says his officers attempted to pull the vehicle over because a headlight was out. The vehicle didn’t stop, and a chase began all the way into Williamsburg County where it ended, Johnson said.
