Student caught after clown threats at high schools in SC Upstate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – A student at Spartanburg High School has been disciplined after a threatening post on Instagram referring to a “Bill the Clown.”

According to Spartanburg District 7, this post was associated with a separate post about a “CJ the Clown” that the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office says originated in Frankfurt, NY.

These threats were also made against Dorman High School.

The Sheriff’s Office has told the two districts that they do not believe the threats to be credible.

“While we hoped the social media posts on Instagram were not credible,” said district spokesperson Salley Hammond, “We’ve taken it as seriously as we take any threat to the safety of our students and our schools.”

Spartanburg High School has continued its normal schedule and the district says it notified parents and families about the incident and increased security measures at the school.

The district says they cannot give any information about the minor but say they were subject to the school’s disciplinary code and the district has no tolerance for the ‘unacceptable behavior.’
