MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) — A storm like Hurricane Matthew can leave damage in its wake, including downed trees.
There were many reports of trees falling in roadways, on homes, and on cars after the storm passed.
Even though you may be in a hurry to clear the damage, consumer experts suggest doing your research on different tree removal companies before hiring one. You can search the Internet for references.
Another tip is to never give money up-front before the service is performed.
Troy Hopkins, who has owned a tree removal company since 2008, says he has never asked for money up-front.
“With this, sometimes you have to work a little different with insurance companies. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 months to get paid, which isn’t fun, but sometimes it’s a part of it,” said Hopkins.
Hopkins also suggest people make sure the tree removal service has insurance.
Consumers should also receive price estimates from several companies before selecting one to hire.
