Tuesday marks College Application Day at West Ashley High

WEST ASHLEY, S.C. (WCBD) — West Ashley High School (WAHS) is hosting College Application Week this week.

It continues from October 3 through October 7 and is open to all WAHS upperclassmen as an effort to encourage post-secondary education.

Each year during the month of October South Carolina schools designate one day as College Application Day, which always falls during College Application Week. While many fun activities are planned for the week, College Application Day on Tuesday, October 4 will be its focus.

Upperclassmen will have the opportunity to fill out college applications and find out more information about the colleges to which they are interested in applying. The goal of this program is to not only to give upperclassmen the opportunity to ask questions of college representatives concerning the application process but also to show them that college is a viable goal that they can reach.

As a perk for participating in this event, many of the application fees will be waived.

Started back in 2009, College Application Week included only 12 high schools and allowed almost 1,000 students to submit approximately 2,000 college applications. In 2010, the program grew to incorporate 57 high schools throughout South Carolina and allowed some 15,000 students assistance filling out and submitting their college applications.

Over 30 different college representatives plan to visit West Ashley High to participate in this event and speak with upperclassmen who are interested in pursuing a post-secondary education.
