BEAVERTON, OR (WCMH) — For $10 you can own a pair of the self-tying shoes, but you’ll have to get lucky because Nike is only releasing a limited number of the “Back to the Future” shoes.
Nike, along with The Michael J. Fox Foundation, announced Tuesday the release of the 2016 version of the Nike Mag shoe. The Nike Mag, famously worn by Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future almost 30 years ago, is a shoe with an individual response system that senses the wearer and tightens or loosens on its own.
The Nike Mag will have a limited-edition release, with only 89 pairs available to consumers in the U.S. and Canada through a digital buy-in lottery.
You can enter the lottery to win a pair by donating $10 to the Michael J. Fox Foundation via Nike.com/Mag or through the Nike+ App for one ticket (i.e. a $10 donation equals one entry). There’s no limit to the amount of tickets/entries that can be purchased per individual and the drawing will begin today, October 4, and end on October 11.
According to Nike, 100 percent of the proceeds raised will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation to drive critical research to accelerate the development of a cure for Parkinson’s disease.
