Charleston, SC (WCBD) – The Charleston Fire Department has confirmed a 71 year old man is dead following a fire at a residential mobile home in West Ashley.
According to CFD Chief Fire Marshal Micheal Julazadeh, fire officials arrived on scene just before 2:15 Sunday afternoon.
While working to put the fire out, firefighters searched the residence where they found an unconscious 71 year old man in the rear bedroom.
Authorities say CPR was performed on the man and he was also taken to Roper Saint Francis Hospital, but he did not survive.
The victim was home alone at the time and believed to be sleeping at the time of the fire.
According to Julazadeh, the fire began in the kitchen, near the stove and microwave which is directly outside the victims bedroom.
The Charleston County Coroner’s Office is investigating the incident and the victim’s cause and manner of death.
The victim’s identity has not been released.
