Van carrying children to family court struck by truck on interstate 26

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating following a crash involving a Charleston County Sheriff’s Office transportation van.

Authorities say on Monday, October 3, just before 10 a.m., a 2014 Ford Panel Van carrying five juveniles to Charleston County Family Court was struck by a 2017 Freightliner Truck on Interstate 26 East near Exit 219A.

According to Major Eric Watson, one juvenile complained of back pains and was transported to the Medical University of South Carolina for an examination.

Lance Corporal Matt Southern with the Highway Patrol says the truck made an improper lane change and sideswiped the transport van. The driver of the truck was found to be at fault.
