Burke High teacher allows student to drive car off of campus; now facing charges

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — The Charleston Police Department arrested and charged a Lowcountry teacher with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Leah Harper Waters, 27, of West Ashley, is being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center on a $10,000 bond.

Waters is accused of allowing a 16-year-old male student to drive her car off Burke High School’s campus between 7:45 a.m. and 8:05 a.m. on September 14 to a local fast food restaurant.

We’re told she knew the teenager didn’t have a driver’s license.

The investigation is ongoing.
