Altercation takes place on school bus; 12-year-old charged

MCCLELLANVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) — A student is charged and a staff member at St. James Santee School is on administrative leave following an altercation on a school bus.

According to the Charleston County School District, the altercation took place Wednesday, September 21 during dismissal. We’re told the bus was parked outside on school property.

According to Charleston County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Major Eric Watson, a 12-year-old is charged with third-degree assault and battery on a school teacher during this incident.The juvenile was released to his parent.

The case will be handled in Family Court, Watson added.
