Report: South Carolina falls to No. 5 in men killing women

Domestic Violence in SC

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – South Carolina is no longer the state with the highest rate of women killed by men.

The Violence Policy Center announced Tuesday that South Carolina now ranks fifth in the nation after spending much of the decade at the top of the dubious list.

A report from the center says FBI data shows 43 women were killed by men in 2014 in South Carolina with two-thirds of them killed with guns.

The center says almost all of the women were killed by someone they knew, with 62 percent killed by a current or former husband or boyfriend.

Alaska is now the most dangerous state for men killing women, followed by Louisiana, Nevada, and Oklahoma.
