Panel to meet with residents about future of Georgetown steel mill

GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WCBD) — A study panel from the Urban Land Institute is in Georgetown County gathering information to make a recommendation on the future of the steel mill site in Georgetown at the end of this week. The public will have an opportunity to meet panel members today at Howard Recreation Center, 1610 Hawkins St., Georgetown. A reception begins at 4 p.m. and a town hall meeting begins at 5 p.m.

We’re told by Georgetown County officials that the group spent most of the morning touring the City of Georgetown, including the steel mill, the port, the historic district and Georgetown’s West End. They have also been talking with county and city officials to get a feel for the area and its residents.
