ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — An Orangeburg County man is in police custody after nearly two pounds of marijuana was seized following a traffic stop, Thursday evening.
Daniel Devine, 37, of Holly Hill was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana. Bond was set at $5,000 during a hearing on Friday.
Authorities say just after 9 p.m. on September 15, investigators patrolling near Santee noticed a Chevrolet Tahoe make a turn into an Old Number Six Highway car wash without using a turn signal.
“As investigators approached the vehicle, the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle was obviously,” according to Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell.
While searching the vehicle, Santee Police and OCSO investigators found a discount store bag containing two plastic bags of marijuana. A third and smaller bag was also found to contain marijuana, according to a news release.
A substantial amount of money was also seized from Devine’s person, according to the report.
A passenger in the vehicle was released after being questioned during the initial investigation.
“This traffic stop removed a considerable amount of marijuana from our streets,” Ravenell added.
