HARTSVILLE, SC – Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center (CPRMC) announced Thursday it has partnered with MUSC Health and Advanced ICU Care® to provide Tele-ICU services which include monitoring by highly trained intensivist physicians and critical care specialists 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing an extra layer of care that enhances patient safety.
“Tele-ICU is part of our commitment to continually innovate and improve services for our patients and our community,” said Tim Browne, Chief Executive Officer for CPRMC. “The addition of constant telemonitoring by intensivist physicians, coupled with the quality care already provided by our outstanding ICU team, means our patients will receive the highest level of medical care available today.”
The team of intensivists and critical care nurses work from centralized Operations Centers around-the-clock, complementing the care provided by the Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center team. The program continuously monitors patient vital signs, medications, labs and the patient’s clinical status. Proactive data management tools identify problems before they become urgent, prompting immediate intervention when necessary. In-room video is utilized during periods of evaluation or when called on by the nurse. This two-way video enables face-to-face consultations between the bedside staff and the Tele-ICU teams, ensuring that help is available when needed. Tele-ICU care makes it possible for hospitals to meet this standard by providing a solution combining 24/7 intensivist-led care, sophisticated technology and a rigorous focus on best practices compliance.
Joining forces for Tele-ICU was made possible due to the establishment of a clinical affiliation created through MUSC Health and Capella Healthcare known as the Capella-MUSC Health Network. It was designed to enhance the health and wellness of families and communities throughout South Carolina. This initiative combines MUSC Health’s academic expertise and commitment to education, research and patient care with Capella Healthcare’s proven expertise in running hospitals to create a regionally-based healthcare delivery network. “We are pleased to partner with the physicians and clinicians at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center to provide additional clinical surveillance and support of their intensive care patients,” said Patrick J. Cawley, M.D., CEO, MUSC Health. “This strong alliance of critical care expertise, combined with the most advanced telemedicine technology and programs provided by Advanced ICU Care, will continually improve patient care.”
South Carolina state telehealth funding through MUSC has made the program significantly more affordable for Carolina Pines — just one of the added benefits of the hospital’s strategic affiliation with MUSC Health.
