Following prank, DD2 confirms schools are in session

Summerville, SC (WCBD) – Dorchester District 2 forced to address a prank.

Sunday night around 5 p.m. pranksters created a fake Facebook page for Dorchester School District Two. The page is nearly identical, except that its only post calls for school to be closed September 12-17 due to “Volcanic Activity.”

Due to volcanic activity near Summerville High School, all schools in Dorchester will be shut down on September 12-17 for safety reasons.”

As of 6 a.m. Monday, the post had been shared 212 times.

Around 10 p.m. Sunday the real Dorchester School District Two addressed the rumor, confirming that there would be school September 12-17.

It’s come to our attention that a fake Facebook page is sharing that Summerville High School will be closed tomorrow. Please note that ALL schools will be open tomorrow.”

Authorities are investigating the false page.
