Arrest made in deadly hit-and-run accident near Georgia/South Carolina state line

JASPER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — The SC Highway Patrol has made an arrest in the September 10  fatal hit and run collision involving a pedestrian on US 17 near the Georgia/South Carolina state line.  The Patrol has arrested Robert G. Collum, III of Rincon, GA who has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.  The 2015 Chevy Impala that Collum was operating was also recovered this morning in Rincon, GA.

The arrest was made possible when a member of the public contacted the Highway Patrol after seeing a description of the vehicle through a local media outlet.  The vehicle was located with the assistance of the Georgia State Patrol.  The Highway Patrol wishes to thank the public for their help in this case, as well as the Georgia State Patrol for their assistance.

Collum was transported to the Jasper County Detention Center, where he will have a bond hearing on September 13 at 9 a.m. The investigation into the collision is still ongoing and anyone with information or who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact the SC Highway Patrol at 843-953-6010 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
